Preparing for your Dog's Stay
Ensuring a smooth, stress-free boarding experience starts with proper preparation. From securing your preferred dates via our online booking system through to confirming up‑to‑date vaccinations, dietary requirements and medication instructions, every step is designed for your dog’s wellbeing. Familiarisation visits help anxious pets settle, while our clear guidance on what to pack and drop‑off day tips give you peace of mind.
With Crowbank Kennels, you’ll feel confident that your dog is safe, comfortable and ready for a happy stay.
Booking Process
To secure a kennel for your dog, we recommend booking well in advance — especially during peak holiday seasons.
The easiest and fastest way to book is through our online booking system: simply select your desired dates, submit a request, and we will confirm availability by email.
A deposit of £50 (or 50% of the booking total, whichever is lower) is required to confirm your reservation. Deposits are refundable within 7 days of payment, but become non-refundable after that period.
If you need to cancel your booking, cancellations must be made at least 14 days in advance to avoid full charges. We also accept bookings by phone, though processing times may be slower.

Vaccinations and Health Requirements
To ensure the health and safety of all our guests, all dogs must have up-to-date vaccinations, including Kennel Cough. All dogs must be treated for worms, ticks and fleas using vet-prescribed treatments, administered at least 7 days before check-in.
You will be required to provide proof of vaccination before your dog can board. For full details on required vaccinations and health guidelines, please visit our Health & Nutrition page.
Preparing Your Dog Emotionally
Most dogs settle beautifully with a little preparation, but some need more time. For dogs with separation anxiety, it can take several weeks to build trust and confidence — so planning ahead is essential.
- Practice short separations: Begin by leaving your dog for brief periods and gradually increase the time as they get comfortable.
- Provide a comfort item: for non-destructive dogs, a familiar t-shirt, jumper, or pyjama top can be soothing.
- Socialise gradually: Introduce them to new people and places to boost their confidence.
- Keep drop-offs calm: A relaxed, positive goodbye helps set the right tone.
Helping Your Dog Settle
Familiarising your dog with our kennels before their stay can make a big difference:
- Initial meeting (sometimes required): Most confident, relaxed dogs don’t need a pre-visit, but for everyone’s safety, we may request a meeting for:
- Dogs from guardian breeds (such as German Shepherds or Mastiffs)
- Dogs who are nervous, reactive, or have shown guarding behaviours
- Any dog we believe would benefit from a calm introduction
This helps us get to know your dog and prepare a safe, positive plan for their stay. Our team is experienced in handling all breeds and temperaments, and these meetings ensure a smooth, stress-free handover for both dogs and staff.
- Free Afternoon Visit: A short stay to explore and get comfortable.
- Additional Visits & Overnight Stays (Optional, for a fee): For dogs who need extra time to settle, we offer extended familiarisation visits.
These steps build your dog’s confidence and make boarding a calm, positive experience.
What to Bring
To ensure your dog has a comfortable and stress-free stay, please pack the following:
- Vaccination card (unless already uploaded online).
- Pre-portioned food for the entire stay, with extra in case of travel delays.
- Collar, harness, head-collar, or muzzle for walks.
- Medication (if applicable), in original packaging with a legible vet label.
- A familiar item (such as a blanket or a small toy) to provide comfort.
Please do not bring: bulky bedding, large toys, or anything that could be swallowed or easily broken. We provide comfortable beds and plenty of toys during their stay.
Drop-Off Day Tips
- Give your dog a good walk before arrival, this will help them to be more relaxed at check-in.
- Keep goodbyes short and reassuring.
As hard as it is, try not to overly fuss, cuddle or kiss your pup before they go as this often signals that something different is about to happen!
- Ensure we have your emergency contact details.
With the right preparation, boarding can be a happy and relaxed experience for both you and your dog. If you have any questions, we’re here to help!
